Our online assessment portal for Career Progression Gateway (CPG) has been designed specifically for use in the UK FRS. All exercises are available in a version relevant for support staff use.

The case study involves a fictitious situation in which the candidate will be required to read through information including emails, data and articles, and produce a written response to topics raised.

The context is a fictitious Fire & Rescue Service.

Overview

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Montshire Fire & Rescue Service. The candidate needs to address concerns regarding poor communication throughout the organisation, including within their Watch. The candidate must respond to the request from their Station Manager to identify areas of concern and suggest ideas for improvement.

Crew Manager - Westhampton FRS

The context is a fictitious Fire & Rescue Service.

Overview

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Westhampton Fire & Rescue Service. The candidate needs to get involved in a bold new FRS initiative and support the organisation by outlining how they would propose delivering key objectives, including managing their team’s performance.

Crew Manager - Larchester FRS

The context is a fictitious Fire & Rescue Service.

Overview

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Larchester Fire & Rescue Service. A new project regarding On-Call Firefighters is underway and the candidate has been asked for input. The candidate will be expected to outline important issues and develop ideas for improvement and implementation of the scheme.

Video/ Telephone Roleplay

The role-play requires the candidate to read through a scenario and make notes before conducting a video/ telephone call to discuss the issues.

Crew Manager - Montshire FRS

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Montshire Fire & Rescue Service. All staff have recently undergone training on a new computerised database. There have subsequently been some attitude problems which the candidate must address. The candidate will also be expected to discuss performance issues and explore ideas and present solutions to any further problems raised.

Crew Manager - Westhampton FRS

The context is a fictitious Fire & Rescue Service.

Overview

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Westhampton FRS Fire & Rescue Service and needs to address some performance concerns raised by a Watch Manager in the team. The concerns relate to the behaviour of an experienced firefighter which is having an impact on community engagement and service delivery.

Crew Manager - Larchester FRS

The context is a fictitious Fire & Rescue Service.

Overview

The candidate assumes the role of a generic Crew Manager in fictitious Larchester Fire & Rescue Service. Concerns have recently been raised regarding a Firefighter’s use of social media, as well as their attitude towards inclusivity and the wider community. The candidate will need to examine the situation and seek positive solutions going forward, in addition to tackling any other issues raised during the conversation.
